Obama is depressing!
I know a lot of people think Obama is an inspiring speaker, but I am not one of them. Is it just me? When he says things like “America’s best days are ahead of us,” I just don’t get a sense that he believes it. Even his debut speech in 2004 was rather lackluster, and his supposedly great speech about Jeremiah Wright was artful in some ways but lacking in real emotion and believability. How then does Obama attract such large crowds to his rallies? I think a lot of it has to do with his organization and publicity machine. Fuoad Ajami, an Arab, made some interesting comments about the throngs coming out to Obama events. It’s actually depressing to think that this sort of phenomenon is more common in awful political environments such as the Arab world.
Oh, and while on the subject of depression, here’s another solid article linking an Obama presidency to the recent stock market plunge and a potentially lengthy economic depression.
